Poll Results

Periodically we will ask you to tell us what you think about something that impacts you, your family, your community. We welcome your thoughts, input or suggestions, either about the topic at hand or a future question we could consider polling the community on. Below are some of the questions and responses you and your neighbours have shared.

Joe Brown Park is the largest park in West Panorama Ridge with lots to offer to all of us who live here. What is your favorite way to experience this park? (choose all that apply)

About half of 16 respondents said that their favourite thing to do in Joe Brown Park is to explore the trails. There is a very extensive trail network through the park.

Almost 20% of respondents said that they enjoy the off-leash dog park. I’ve heard it mentioned that it is a nice new addition for our fur-loving community and it’s great to see it so well used.

One quarter of you who replied take advantage of the abundance of blackberries ripe for the picking towards the end of the summer. A couple of people are involved with the equestrian center and we also have a few cyclists who enjoy the park. No one who responded said that they have used the park for baseball or softball.

Joe Brown Park is a real treasure for this community so if you haven’t been in the park lately, go for a walk, go for a ride, explore! You might be surprised.

If you are one of the many dog owners on the Ridge, do you plan to take your pet to the new off-leash dog park in Joe Brown Park now that it is ready?

Out of 26 of you who responded to this poll, overwhelmingly you are supporters of the park and do plan to, or already are, enjoying this new use of our largest park. 19 responded ‘Yes’, 4 ‘No’ and 3 of you were unsure. The off-leash area seems to be gaining in popularity as many more dog-owners are discovering it. If you haven’t already, check it out and let us know what you think. Read more about it here.

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution for 2022?

Well, looks like it’s pretty evenly split between those of you who did make a New Year’s Resolution and those of you who didn’t or don’t make New Year’s Resolutions.

I don’t typically make a New Year’s Resolution as I prefer to make ongoing commitments to myself – feels like a little less pressure.

As I combed through the web, I found some of the most common New Year’s Resolutions:

Top 10 New Year’s resolutions for 2022

  • Get more fit through exercising more
  • Spend more time with family and friends
  • Be more aware and take care of mental health
  • Sort out finances and cut back spending
  • Travel more
  • Take up a new hobby, sport or other interest
  • Be more environmentally conscious
  • Look for a new job

Do any of these resonate with you? I know that they do for me.

Even if you don’t set New Year’s Resolutions, you may appreciate a different perspective around how to set goals, period. I enjoyed this quick and fun article from Harvard Business Review that encourages us to rethink and reframe how we set goals.

If you did make a resolution for this year, good luck with it! Hopefully you’ll look back over the year and see some progress. Let us know how it’s going.
