Horses

The Ridge has a rural history that has always included horses. That being said, the Ridge has changed, with nearly all of the large land parcels having been developed. There are far fewer horses now residing on residential lots, and far more horse located in one of the two stables located in close proximity to the ridge.

As the ridge has become more developed, not everyone who moves here welcomes horses walking across their boulevard or depositing once digested hay in front of their homes or on the sidewalk. The WPRRA has met with representatives of both stables, and the riding and pony club, and together we have come up with a set of rules to help horses and the community coexist. These rules are:

1. Horses must not be walked or ridden on sidewalks. It is illegal to ride or walk a horse on a public sidewalk. Horse must be ridden on the street or where there is a boulevard path, on that path. The boulevard paths in Panorama Ridge are on 125A Street and 56th/ New McLellan. Riding on a boulevard is also illegal!

2. Horses must not be ridden on park (Joe Brown Park) trails during the winter months or anytime when the trails are very wet. Horse do extensive damage to these trails when they are wet. Please note, none of the trails in Joe Brown Park are designated equestrian. Due to liability and safety concerns, the City of Surrey tells us that it is illegal to ride a horse in a public park unless that park has trails designated equestrian. It is only through the cooperation of the community that horses are allowed to use these trails, please do not abuse these privileges!

3. The stables and the Riding clubs agree to the regular pick-up of horse manure.
