Crime Watch

This new section was created to keep you informed on criminal or suspicious activity on the Ridge. You can take action by reporting crime to the police as well as adding to this list of activity by sending information directly to WPRRA.

  • September 30, 2011
    Coulthard Road

    Truck was vandalized and damaged in an attempt to enter the vehicle. The truck was locked and had nothing of value inside. This incident was reported to the police.

    125A Street and 53rd Avenue

    A loud party with many guests and cars parked along the boulevard. Police were called multiple times and finally shut the party down at 1:30AM.
    Attempts were made to break into vehicles in the area. This same house has now hosted a number of these events and the property may be being used illegally as a wedding banquet hall.

    Two incidents of Telus cable thefts. In the first case a large piece of cable was cut and stolen causing a large area to lose phone service for about 30 hours. A white van with a bucket lift was seen in the area. A second cable was cut about two weeks later but the thief was interrupted and fled before he was able to remove the cable.

    New McLellan and 129th Street

    A serious home invasion where armed intruders held residents hostage and demanded to know where the money and pot was. They left suddenly when they realized they had the wrong house. This was reported to police but no suspects were captured.

    Two grow-ops were busted on this street on the same day. Both were rental properties.

    A young person was walking from house to house with a story about needing to borrow gas money that he will eventually pay back. Clearly a scam.

    Reports of multiple cars broken into with small items removed. All the cars were parked in driveways with easy access to the street.

    Coulthard Road

    A car was broken into by smashing the window with a brick. A DSLR camera was stolen and police were called and issued a file number. This car was parked on the resident’s property, not on the street.

    A car was broken into and small items were stolen.

    136 Street and 57 Avenue

    A car was broken into and vandalized and items were stolen. Police attended as there appeared to be blood on the car door handle.

    A car was stolen when the driver left the vehicle to retrieve an item that was blown off a trailer.

    Corner of 56th Avenue and 129th Street

    An older white male was driving a white older van (license 435KT) pulling utility trailer (license OGD 40V - missing a digit). The man was unloading garbage onto an empty lot. When approached and told that he was being reported to police, the man loaded the garbage back onto truck and left.

    A stolen car was dumped on the side of the road.

    The back door of a house was kicked in and the house was ransacked. Police were called.

    A quad ATV and 4 truck tires were stolen from a resident in the early hours of the morning. Police were not called as the resident felt it would be of no use.

    Southridge Drive

    A tree trimmer was working on a property when a car occupied by two young men stopped and started a conversation with him. He went back to work and the car/men remained. Later he discovered that they had stolen his wallet from his vehicle. This was not reported to police.

    Targeted drive-by shooting at 4am in the Ridge cul-de-sac. No report of injuries. Police were called and did respond. We are waiting for more information.

    Area of 55A Avenue

    A suspicious individual was noticed carrying a set of golf clubs, wearing a back-pack containing something heavy. He was attempting to hide the golf clubs as he walked and took a bunch of short cuts through the ridge avoiding contact with residents and appeared to be heading towards Newton. He certainly did not appear to be a golfer! Police were called.

    New Mcllelan and 140th Street

    Thieves stole well-locked and hidden bikes from a residence. The entire family lost their bikes. The owner reports seeing many suspicious individuals wandering around at odd hours, on bikes, walking etc. They appear to be casing houses for later entry or crimes of convenience.

    55A Avenue

    Residents at the end of 55A Avenue report gangs of youth using the street as a gathering place to party in their cars. Calls to the RCMP have resulted in such slow response that the offenders are usually long gone.

    Southridge Drive around 127th Street

    A resident observed a scruffy individual entering his carport at the back of his house. When approached the individual ran off at high speed. The resident chased this person, caught him and after a struggle held him for police who were called by a neighbour. Police arrested this individual and indicated that he had a history of petty crime including theft.

    A resident returned home to find the garage door ajar and evidence that individuals had entered the home and walked through it. The residents believe whoever entered their property had cased it to learn when they were out. They had three cars in the driveway and a radio on but this did not discourage the burgler.

    A home was entered and completely stripped of pipes, sinks, wires, anything of value.

    It was reported that the blueberry farmer below the ridge had his gate lock smashed and all his farm equipment, including tractors, stolen.

    A set of golf clubs were stolen out of an open garage door. Police were not called.

    55th Avenue and 125A Street

    A car was set on fire in front of a house on this street. The car was destroyed and a gas can was found in a nearby yard. The fire department attended and put out the fire and the police attended after the fire was out. No indication of the history of the car or the circumstances around this fire.

    A break and enter was interrupted in progress when young male attempted to access a crawl space. Police were called and arrived in about 20 minutes. The intruder was not found.

    Unlocked shed was entered and tools were stolen. Police were not called as resident did not believe they would attend.

    Southridge Drive area

    Thieves stole three air compressors and a large green toolbox from a resident's home who was having a new roof installed. The tools were owned by the roofers. All the tools were locked and chained and the tool box was designed to make the lock very difficult to remove. The thieves obviously came prepared. Early in the week, residents had observed a black pick-up truck with two white males inside that were acting suspiciously and appeared to be casing the neighborhood.

    A house on this street has been broken into three times with tools stolen.

    A resident driving past Colebrook School was cut off by a van that performed an illegal u-turn in the middle of the street and then proceeded to drop a child off at school. The resident honked when he was cut off, but then preceded up 125A Street with no further interaction with the van driver. The van driver dropped off his child then chased the resident heading west down New McLellan towards 120th street. When the resident pulled into the left turn lane to turn left on to highway 10, the van pulled in behind. The driver of the van came out of his vehicle, approached the resident, and then proceeded to start swearing at him for honking back at the school. Eventually, the agitated van driver reached into the car, grabbed the resident by the throat, and began attempting to choke or pull the resident out of the car through the window. The incident only ended when the light turned green and the resident started to proceed through the intersection in an attempt dislodge his attacker. After a few steps, the van driver finally let go. The resident got the license plate number of the van (a two tone beige Pontiac Montana van, license # 892 GNH) and reported it to police. If you witnessed this incident, please contact Surrey RCMP and quote file number 09144947. The police are still investigating this incident.

    Two more reports of the “shingle” people casing the neighboorhood and acting suspiciously. One person is a male, tall and thin, the other a blonde male with a baseball cap. They both have backpacks and one rides a bicycle. They have been observed entering yards and taking notes. It has been reported that they sometimes knock on doors and ask to clean gutters. The RCMP has not been responsive when made aware of this situation. Watch out for these people.

    Two people in a red van (license plate # 516 LFJ) were observed on private property claiming they were looking for an address in the area but were then seen entering a garden shed. Police were called but did not attend, telling the caller to call back if the individuals were seen again.

    56th Avenued

    A new report of a man riding a bike carring some shingles and acting in a suspicious manner. He was observed a number of times and appeared to have no specific place he was heading. This appears to be the same person as reported in the September 13, 2009 report.

    West end of 54A Avenue

    A large quantity of tools and equipment were discovered dumped at the end of the road. Some of the tools looked like ones required for a B&E. Most of the material looked like the result of a B&E where equipment was stolen, picked through and these less valuable items were left behind.

    130th Street and Coulthard Road

    A man in his late 30's (about 6'1", very slim build, dark brown hair, not clean shaven) knocked at a resident's door after her husband and son had left just two minutes earlier. The man asked if the resident wanted her roof cleaned. He did not have any ID on him, did not have a car, was on foot and would not give his name. This same individual returned two days later and asked the same question. When he was told the residents were not interested he started swearing and yelling. He appeared to be casing houses for an opportunity to return. This is very suspicious activity, watch for this man.

    Southridge Drive

    At 4:50am two cars were observed parked head to head with headlights on shining at each other. There was lots of loud conversation and something appeared to be exchanged between occupants. The cars then left. This behavior was viewed as being very suspicious. In addition, in July a work van was broken into at this same location.

    Station Road

    A man knocked on a resident's door holding some shingles, indicating that he was working in the neighbourhood and offered to clean their gutters. He had no vehicle. He asked if the residents were going out and was told no. About five days later he was spotted on Station Road carrying the same shingles. This man was acting in a very suspicious manner. Police were called but appeared uninterested. Be on the watch for an individual with this modus operandi.

    Colebrook School

    Four adult males and one female driving a Sienna van (license 178 JKD) and a Mitsubishi Lancer (license 159 AWW) arrived at the school with a cooler and proceeded to the playground to party. Police were called.

    Joe Brown Park

    Two individuals in a white BMW (license 093 MBL) drove into the park. Initially they were sitting in the front seat but moved to the back and initiated an inappropriate activity (in a public park!). This event was reported to police.

    123rd Avenue and Joe Brown Park

    An ATV was seen traveling at high speed through the park, past the horse barn and on to Ridge roads. This activity is dangerous to pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists etc. Police have been called about this activity in the past. The ATV rider was stopped and warned that this is illegal and dangerous.

    55A Avenue, cross street, 132nd

    A woman in her twenties knocked on a resident’s door asking if a car was for sale (no car was for sale). When told “no”, the woman made a hasty retreat to a waiting car. The car was a newer, silver, high-end model. A few days later a neighbor had their home broken into by a couple matching this description, except that this time there were two girls in their twenties. Police were called. Watch for this tactic, be alert!

    56A Avenue and 138th Street

    At 4:30am a barking dog alerted residents to look outside their home and they observed someone rummaging through their car. Believing the dog had scared the burglar away the resident went out the front door only to be confronted by the individual standing at his door. He was an Indo-Canadian male about 19 or 20 years old wearing blue plastic gloves. He claimed he was coming from a party and was drunk and needed directions. Police were called and the individual was held but released before the police arrived. Further inspection revealed both cars had been rummaged through and an empty knife sheaf was found. It appears this individual was in possession of a knife. A police report was filed.

    Early in morning, (5 AM) individual is observed going through two cars. Had the trunks open (cars were unlocked). When the homeowner started yelling at him, sprayed something in the direction of the homeowner and ran to a waiting car. The individual is described as a Caucasian in his mid twenties. It was an older black sports car with a noisy muffler.

    64 Ave to 70 Ave and 123 St to 132 St

    This area is not within Panorama Ridge but is close enough for us to be aware of it. According to the Surrey RCMP, the new hot spot for residential break and enters is from 64 Ave to 70 Ave and from 123 St to 132nd St. Take precautions to protect your property and report all suspicious activity to the police.

    Individual observed dumping green waste in Joe Brown Park. Resident asked offender to stop and recorded their license plate number. This incident was reported to the City.

    Reports of vandalism including eggs and tomatoes thrown at homes in the area of 136th street and 55A avenue.

    132A St

    Male, believed to be in early 30s, murdered in or near a house on 132A street. 50 RCMP, helicopters and dogs looked for evidence and executed grid search area for weapons. Police file # 09-54962.

    Male bike rider with bike pack and white ball cap observed on dead-end streets in the area of 53rd and 52A. Appeared to be casing out the area.

    A couple in a car were observed engaged in inappropriate activity on 55A Avenue. Area has been often visited by RCMP.

    Colebrook Road (9:00PM)

    Pick-up observed traveling slowly on Colebrook Road pulling a large trailer of broken bricks. Resident did a U-turn to see what the intent was and the truck left the area at high speed. Likely intended to dump a load on Colebrook Road.
